ACADEMY’S OSCAR WEEK EVENTS CELEBRATE THIS YEAR’S NOMINEES

In the week leading up to the 90th Oscars®, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present a series of public programs celebrating this year’s nominees in the Animated Feature Film, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, Foreign Language Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Original Score, and Animated and Live Action Short Film categories.  Events will be held at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills and Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles.

LOS ANGELES, CA – Actress-comedian Tiffany Haddish and actor-director Andy Serkis, joined by Academy President John Bailey, announced the 90th Academy Awards® nominations today (January 23) live from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater via a global live stream on Oscar.com, Oscars.org, the Academy’s digital platforms, a satellite feed and broadcast media.

The 90th Academy Awards® nominations in all 24 Oscar® categories will be announced in a two-part, live presentation on Tuesday, January 23, via global live stream on Oscar.com, Oscars.org, the Academy’s digital platforms, a satellite feed and local broadcasters.  The announcement will combine live presentations from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater, with pre-taped category introductions, which will only be featured in the first half of the announcement.

10 LIVE ACTION SHORTS ADVANCE IN 2017 OSCAR RACE

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that 10 live action short films will advance in the voting process for the 90th Academy Awards.  A record 165 pictures had originally qualified in the category.

The 10 films are listed below in alphabetical order by title, with their production companies:

THE ACADEMY’S BOARD OF GOVERNORS AWARDS AN OSCAR® TO ALEJANDRO G. IÑÁRRITU’S “CARNE Y ARENA” VIRTUAL REALITY INSTALLATION

The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voted Wednesday (October 25) to present a Special Award – an Oscar® statuette – to director Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s virtual reality installation, “CARNE y ARENA (Virtually Present, Physically Invisible),” in recognition of a visionary and powerful experience in storytelling. “The Governors of the Academy are proud to present a special Oscar to ‘CARNE y ARENA,’ in which Alejandro Iñárritu and his cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki have opened for us new doors of cinematic perception,” said Academy President John Bailey.

Casting director and producer David Rubin will return to produce the 9th Annual Governors Awards for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Academy President John Bailey announced today.

Honorary Awards will be presented to writer-director Charles Burnett, cinematographer Owen Roizman, actor Donald Sutherland and director Agnès Varda on Saturday, November 11, at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center®.
