10 DOC SHORTS ON OSCAR’S 2015 SHORTLIST

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that the field of Documentary Short Subject contenders for the 88th Academy Awards® has been narrowed to 10 films, of which five will earn Oscar® nominations.
Voters from the Academy’s Documentary Branch viewed this year’s 74 eligible entries and submitted their ballots to PricewaterhouseCoopers for tabulation.
The 10 films are listed below in alphabetical order by title, with their production companies:

Chris Rock Returns To Host The Oscars®

Multi-hyphenate artist and filmmaker Chris Rock will return to host the Oscars® for a second time, producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin announced today. The 88th Academy Awards® will be broadcast live on Oscar® Sunday, February 28, 2016, on the ABC Television Network. Rock previously hosted the 77th Oscars telecast in 2005.
Academy Relaunches Grants Program: FilmWatch, FilmCraft and Academy Film Scholars Applications Available Now

The Academy announced today the relaunch of its grants program, which provides financial support to qualifying film festivals, educational institutions and film scholars. Online applications are now being accepted for the 2016 FilmWatch, FilmCraft and Academy Film Scholars programs.

Eighty-one countries have submitted films for consideration in the Foreign Language Film category for the 88th Academy Awards®. Paraguay is a first-time entrant.
The 2015 submissions are:

Museum Will Include The Shirley Temple Education Studio And Key Artifacts From The Star’s Career
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that it has received a gift valued at more than $5 million from the late Oscar®-winning Hollywood actress and United States Ambassador Shirley Temple Black and her family. This gift includes both a substantial monetary contribution to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ capital campaign as well as key artifacts from Shirley Temple Black’s indelible early career.

ACADEMY REVEALS WINNING NICHOLL SCREENWRITERS

Five individuals have been selected as winners of the 2015 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting competition. The Academy is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the global competition which aims to identify and encourage talented new screenwriters. Each winner will receive a $35,000 prize, the first installment of which will be distributed at an awards presentation on Wednesday, November 4, at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. For the third consecutive year, the event also will include a live read of selected scenes from the fellows’ winning scripts. .
GUILLERMO DEL TORO AND DUPLASS BROTHERS LEAD ACADEMY’S FALL PROGRAMMING SLATE

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced its fall programming slate, beginning with “This Is Duplass: An Evening with Jay and Mark” and “In the Labyrinth: A Conversation with Guillermo del Toro” hosted by Academy Museum Director Kerry Brougher.
