| This fall the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present the final showing of the groundbreaking multimedia exhibition Hollywood Costume in the historic Wilshire May Company building, the future location of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, at Wilshire Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles. |
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present “Movies in Your Brain: The Science of Cinematic Perception,” a two-night event on Tuesday, July 29, and Wednesday, July 30, at 7:30 p.m. at the Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood. Actor-director Jon Favreau (“Iron Man 2), Oscar-nominated director Darren Aronofsky (“Black Swan”), and neuroscientist and screenwriter Ari Handel (“Noah”) will be joined by esteemed cognitive scientists from around the world for a program exploring how experiments in cinematic perception have advanced our understanding of the human brain.
| The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that it has received a $7 million gift from Dolby Laboratories to provide cutting-edge audiovisual technology in the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures' movie theaters. Additionally, the Dolby family has made a $5 million gift to the Academy Museum's capital campaign. In recognition of this gift, the Academy will name the Museum's rooftop terrace the Dolby Family Terrace. |
| Five first-time governors have been elected to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Board of Governors. In addition, eight incumbents have been reelected and four previous governors are returning to the Board. The first-time governors are Kate Amend, Documentary Branch; Daniel R. Fellman, Executives Branch; Albert Berger, Producers Branch; Bob Rogers, Short Films and Feature Animation Branch; and Mark Mangini, Sound Branch. |
| Actors Beau Bridges and Jeff Bridges will share the stage at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ “Beau and Jeff: A Tale of Two Bridges,” on Monday, August 4, at 7:30 p.m. at the Bing Theater in Los Angeles. In a conversation about their long and remarkable careers, including that of their father Lloyd, the siblings will select clips from each other’s work and discuss the legacy of a legendary Hollywood dynasty. |

| Cheryl Boone Isaacs was re-elected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Tuesday night (August 5) by the organization’s Board of Governors. In addition, Jeffrey Kurland was elected first vice president, Leonard Engelman and John Bailey were elected to vice president posts, Dick Cook was elected treasurer, and Bill Kroyer was elected secretary. |
